Churches often experience division. Case in point, the age old joke about the man rescued from an island where he had spent years in solitude. As he gave a tour, he pointed out his current church and his former church. ;-) 1 Peter 3:8 lays out 5 virtues that help:

“Finally, all of you be of one mind, having compassion for one another; love as brothers, be tenderhearted, be courteous”.

These virtues run counter to what we often experience in our world today. At the front of this list is: “be of one mind”. When churches are divided, they cannot impact their communities as they should. People see enough division and strife in the world! While it is never good to just blindly unify, there is no doubt that Christian unity is a major theme of the New Testament. I like to tell people that the devil has a 4-D strategy: Discourage, Deceive, Divide, Devour. He wants to divide marriages, families and nations. But the devil’s ultimate goal is to divide churches. 1 Peter 3:9-12 goes on to give a recipe for peace.

I encourage you to dust off your Bible and read these 4 verses. God Bless Crosby County!
